Part of the ageing process involves losing facial volume (fat and bone) as well as losing skin volume which is responsible for the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and folds. These can be improved using fillers which involve injecting a natural substance, Hyaluronic Acid (HA). When injected beneath the skin, these fillers support wrinkles, and folds of the face such as those which appear form the corner of the mouth downwards. Deeper folds and creases in the face or brow may have arisen by gravitational sagging rather than volume loss in which case they may be more effectively treated by surgery. Mr Grover will give you an honest opinion as to what is the best way of helping with your concerns. Rajiv performs all non-surgical treatments himself and does not delegate these to a nurse. He enjoys looking after his patients individually.
FACIAL FILLERS
INTRODUCTION
Are there different dermal fillers?
There are many different types of dermal fillers in the market but only a few dermal fillers have demonstrated predictable long term results with minimal swelling and reliable safety. Mr Grover restricts his practice to using Restylane products which have consistently demonstrated predictable and safe results in the scientific literature and which he has personally used for over 20 years.
Restylane
Restylane is the brand name for an injectable form of hyaluronic acid specially formulated for facial filling. Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar that is found in the connective tissue of our skin and along with collagen and forms the building blocks of healthy tissues. Restylane is one of the most popular facial fillers in the world today and has been used in over 40 million treatments. It has a proven safety record with more scientific papers documenting its safety than any other facial filler. The result from the treatment is immediate and will last about 6-9 months on average.
Is the procedure painful?
Topical local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin before treatment and the product is injected with a very fine needle so there is little discomfort however each person is individual.
Can I have the treatment and go back to work?
Some patients may experience a little redness and swelling which can be minimized with cover-up makeup. If you are conscious of some redness or swelling it may be as well to take the rest of the day off and avoid social engagements for 2-3 days.
What are the risks?
As with any sort of injection there can be some bruising and minor swelling although this is not severe and usually settles within 2-3 days. As Restylane is not derived from animals there is little chance of any allergic reaction which means no skin test is needed before treatment. Despite this, very rarely there can be an allergic response in 1 in 200 patients which may require treatment with anti-inflammatory medication. More serious complications are extremely rare.
